Between Kathmandu and Pokhara there are five major groups of peaks, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu, Himalchuli and the large Annapurna Himal. This route is recommended by many trekkers though it is not as popular as Annapurna and Everest. It is famous for Tamang Culture, spectacular mountain views and rhododendron forest. It is also a convenient distance from Kathmandu.

Itineraries

Day 01

Kathmandu to Trishuli and Salangkhu khola

Drive to Trishuli and walk to Salangkhu khola for an overnight stop.

Day 02

Salangkhu khola to Balche village

An easy walk then a short climb takes us to Kalawale village. Then proceed to big Tamang village of Balche

Day 03

Balche village to Gonga

Easy walking from Balche village through forest takes you to the overnight camp at Gonga with the peaks of Langtang Lirung and Gosainkunda in good view.

Day 04

Gonga to Singla

Walk through rhododendron forests and camp at Singla or Rupchet. Rupchet is a cattle pasture and Singla is the pass. The Singla pass offers spectacular views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Baudha Peak, Himal Chuli, Machhapuchhre and South Annapurna II.

Day 05

Singla

Rest day at Singla (4600m)

Day 06

Singla to Pangsang

Walk up the Singla hill following small trails to Pangsung for the overnight camp. The view from here is magnificient.

Day 07

Pangsang to Shomthang

Follow the ridge to our campsite for the night at Shomthang. This gives us a close-up view of Ganesh Himal.

Day 08

Shomthang to Jogeshwarkund Lake

A gradual climb throughout the day to reach the campsite at Jogeshwarkund Lake (occasionaly Shomthang to Jogeshwarkund Lake is not possible due to army training)

Day 09

Jogeshwarkund Lake (Rest day)

People interested can do rock and peak climbing above 5000m.

Day 10

Jogeshwarkund Lake to Linju khola

Start your trek and descend to Linju khola.

Day 11

Linju khola to Serthung village

Walk down through pine and rhododendron forests to Sherthung village and set up camp with good views of mountain all around.

Day 12

Serhung village to Laba

A short flat trail then a gradual descent, passing through Borang village, followed by crossing the Akhu khola, takes you to Laba, a big Tamang village.

Day 13

Laba to Mongeythanti

A slight climb to cross the hill, then descend through forests to Mongeythanti.

Day 14

Mongeythanti to Dunchet village

A gradual walk through forest until you reach Dumchet village.

Day 15

Dunchet village to Budigandaki

Gradually walk to Baseri where you camp near the Budigandaki River.

Day 16

Budigandaki to Arughat Bazaar

Walk along the bank of the Budigandaki River and stop at Arughat Bazaar for the night, a pleasant village.

Day 17

Arughat Bazaar to Khanchowk danda

Gradually climb the Khanchowk danda and cross the Mukti khola.

Day 18

Khanchowk danda to Gorkha

Cross a ridge and walk up hill to Gorkha.

Day 19

Gorkha to Kathmandu

Drive to Kathmandu.
